On the afternoon of April 10, 2021, the signing ceremony for the "Development and Application of Solid-State Magnesium-Based Hydrogen Storage Materials and Technology" project between Chongqing University and Guangdong National Technology Co., Ltd was held in Chongqing University. President Zongyi Zhang of Chongqing University delivered a speech at the signing ceremony. Academician Weimin Bao, Director of Science and Technology Commission of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, and Mr. Xiaoyun Mou (Deputy Director of Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau) also delivered speeches. Academician Fusheng Pan of Chongqing University and Chairman Jianzhang Su of Guangdong National Technology Co., Ltd signed the cooperative technology development contract on behalf of each side. Prof. Shilong Wang (Vice President of Chongqing University), Mrs. Xuan Shi (Deputy Director of Chongqing Science and Technology Commission), Mr. Yanxing Guo (General Manager of Guangdong National Technology Co., Ltd), Jianyong Cao (President of Guangdong National Technology Co., Ltd), Prof. Xiaoxu Huang (Dean of the College of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University), Prof. Dingfei Zhang, Prof. Bin Jiang, Prof. Xianhua Chen, Prof. Aitao Tang, Prof. Guangsheng Huang, Prof. Jian Peng, etc. of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys also took part in the ceremony. Prof. Dingfei Zhang chaired the ceremony. The project is about to invest 500 million Yuan in 5 years in total. In addition, 150 million Yuan is about to be investigated to the "Development and Application of Solid-State Magnesium-Based Hydrogen Storage Materials and Technology" project. At the same time, it will partially invest to the R&D of magnesium-ion-based batteries.

Safe and efficient hydrogen storage and transportation technology is the major bottleneck for developing and applying renewable energies worldwide. They are also of great significance to the national hydrogen energy strategy, especially for fuel cell vehicles, wind and light energy industry, power industry and aerospace technology. Magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials exhibit the highest hydrogen storage capability among metal hydrides, and thus have a significant market prospect. Their large-scale application can fundamentally change the traditional energy storage systems that is suffered from low efficiency, high cost, and poor safety issues. Therefore, this project is of great significance to Chongqing University and China's hydrogen energy industry. At the signing ceremony, President Zongyi Zhang expressed a warm welcome to Chairman Jianzhang Su on behalf of Chongqing University, and promised that the university would strongly support the implementation of the project. Academician Weimin Bao presented the prospect of potential applications of magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials, highly affirming the execution of the project. He also expressed the anticipation of applying magnesium-based hydrogen storage materials in aerospace technology. Deputy Director Xiaoyun Mou said that the implementation of the project is of great significance to the development of hydrogen energy in China and Chongqing, and the Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau has already set up relevant works to support the project. Academician Fusheng Pan briefly introduced the importance of the development and application of magnesium-based energy storage materials, and expressed his gratitude to the participants for their supports. Chairman Jianzhang Su introduced the company's basic situation, the achievements obtained in the preliminary projects and the general direction of investment in magnesium-based energy storage materials. President Jianyong Cao introduced the background, development plan and goals of each stage for the project.

Its subsidiaries include Shenzhen Zhongrun Xinde Technology Co. Ltd., Shenzhen Zhongrun Hangyan Magnesium-based New Materials and Application Co. Ltd., Guangdong National Technology Co. Ltd., Zhongrong Huaxin International Biotechnology (Beijing) Co. Ltd., etc. Zhongrun Xinde is looking forward to cooperating with Chongqing University and other R&D institutions to establish an international sharing platform for intelligent manufacturing of light metal-based energy storage materials. In addition, the company will provide whole lifecycle services for lightweight material manufacturing enterprises. Moreover, Zhongrun Xinde will also develop potential technologies for promoting new-energy strategies.

Chongqing University has built national platforms, such as the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys and International Joint Research Center for New Materials of Ministry of Science and Technology for the first-class Electron Microscope. National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys is the world's largest research platform dedicated for magnesium and magnesium alloys. The National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys is the Chairman units of the ISO/TC 79/SC 5 "Magnesium and Magnesium Alloy Technical Committee". It is also affiliated with the Chinese Committee for Magnesium and its Application (CCMA). Moreover, the center sponsers "Journal of Magnesium and Alloys", which is the most influential SCI journal in Metallurgy & Metallurgical Engineering category. The center has made remarkable achievements in magnesium-based structural materials, structural and functional integrated materials, hydrogen storage materials and magnesium-based biomaterials, etc., leading the scientific activities of magnesium-based materials in the international communities.

Ltd., academician Fusheng Pan, Prof. Dingfei Zhang, Prof. Bin Jiang, Prof. Xianhua Chen, Prof. Aitao Tang, Prof. Guangsheng Huang, Prof. Jian Peng and other team members, including Yuan Yuan, Jia Hu, Jun Tan, Yong Wang, Chaohe Xu, Jiangfeng Song, Yaobo Hu, Hansong Xue, Junyao Xu, Quan Wu, Jinxing Wang, Jianbo Li and Yuping Liu.
